The Podcast

We launched our podcast back in March of this year, and today I received a congratulations from Buzzsprout, one of the podcast services we use, for 100 podcast downloads. That’s not just listens, but downloads which is a different thing from merely listening. Thank you to everyone who has listened, followed, liked and/or downloaded the podcasts. From the time I was 15 years old I dreamed of becoming a foreign correspondent journalist, meeting people around the world and from all walks of life. I was inspired by Geraldine Brooks’ advice to always carry a “king suit” in your luggage in the event that, well, you have to interview a King or Queen.

My path moved me into business instead, where I enjoyed writing communications to clients around the world and earning their business. I could apply my history degree in business as well. So while I gave thoroughly enjoyed business, I was intrigued by social media and podcasting because I could produce independently. Without amy education or real experience in journalism, however, I was a little cautious. But after listening to Rob Harvilla weave his musical memories on his podcast called “60 songs that explain the 90s” I thought, I need to jump in. And my holiday staffer Jasdeep was willing to help record and edit the very first episode. From there I learned from Dave O’Gara at Dublin based A Podcast Geek about the equipment required and I stumbled along into putting together the platforms and Dave and Jon’s help with editing. Then the magic happened - folks agreed to let me interview them and for that I am so grateful because let’s face it, putting yourself out in the internet can be daunting. So I commend the bravery of my guests and can only hope that they enjoyed the process and results of our recorded chat.

As the Carpenters said, We’ve Only Just Begun, and I am excited to continue running the podcast for as long as I have people who want to talk with me on the show, and topics to discuss, and let’s see where this takes us.
